Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarship for his family and service to the community. First of all the Selmons were raised by Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They lived on a farm near Eufala located in Oklahoma as the eldest of their nine children. In second football, he was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. He was awarded two championships as well as 32-1-1 in his three seasons as Oklahoma's starter. The National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in the year 1975. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy was involved in voluntary work for 10 hours a week while he attended college. After graduation, he moved into Tampa and played nine seasons with the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro for three occasions. Then he started his career. In 1988, as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa and worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was not a surprise when In 1982, The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of ten outstanding young people across the nation. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He coached his university team in the year 1975. In 1993, he became the as associate director at the University of South Florida. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
